and was a finalist for The Discover Great New Writers Series. The paperback
edition in Berkley's Signature Series, was named a noteworthy paperback
by The New York Times Book Review. Ms. Benz's lead story from her
collection Dear Princess Di appeared in the Winter issue 2000
of The Virginia Quarterly Review . Other stories have
been recently published in Ontario Review, Farmers
Market and the Madison Review . Earlier
stories won citations from The Nelson
Algren Award, and the Mademoiselle
fiction contest. Maudy Benz has
written on literary culture
for The News and Observer
and has written
memoir for
The Oxford American
Magazine. She has covered
the American Dance Festival for
several years for The Independent
and has reviewed dance for The Washington
Post. Benz was a fellow at the Wesleyan Writers
Conference; has taught at Writing Women's Lives. Santa Fe,
at The Iowa Summer Writing Festival and at Duke University's Short
Courses Program. She has taught in Provence, France, with Southlands in
2002 and at The Iowa Summer Writing Festival 2002. She also teaches
seminars out of her home and performs text and image
presentations of her fiction adapted to large
scale photographs in diptych. She is
finishing a second novel
entitled The Secret

Braun.
